Anton Sylvester Berg

	Anton Sylvester Berg, age 97 of Du Quoin passed away Sunday January 30, 2005 at 12:35 p.m. at the Fairview Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
	Anton was born on August 13, 1907 in Du Quoin, the son of Val and Mary (Miller) Berg.  He married Frances McCurdy on May 27, 1930 in Du Quoin and she preceded him in death.  Anton was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.  He owned and operated Berg's Market in Du Quoin and served as a custodian in the Du Quoin school system.  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin served as an Alderman on the Du Quoin city council, member of the library board, recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen award, member of Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. Anton also enjoyed fishing and gardening and loved birds, especially purple martins.
	Survivors include a daughter, Jackie and Clyde Pierce of Du Quoin, two grandchildren, Debbie and Dan Eaves of Du Quoin, and Penni Kjellesvik of Herrin, three great-grandchildren, Gretchen and Frankie James of Du Quoin, Carry Bailey of DuQuoin, and Heather Kjellesvik of Herrin, and two great-great grandchildren, Dawson James and Olivia James both of Du Quoin. 
	Anton was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Frank, George and John, sister Minnie Eberle, and an infant brother and sister.
	Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.  Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.  Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin American Legion.
	Friends may call on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at the Pyatt-Harrawood & Epplin Funeral Home in Du Quoin from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at which time the rosary will be said.  Memorials can be made to the Sacred Heart School and will be accepted at the funeral home.
